First Lutheran Church Women (FLCW)

The First Lutheran Church Women (FLCW) participate in the life of the church through many different avenues. We have several committees: Funeral Lunch & Kitchen Committee, Bemidji Food Shelf Committee, Soup Kitchen Committee, and we head up the Serving Groups of First Lutheran. We are part of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Purpose Statement of the Women of the ELCA

As a community of women

created in the image of God,
called to discipleship in Jesus Christ,

and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

We commit ourselves to

grow in faith,

affirm our gift

support one another in our callings,

engage in ministry and action, and
promote healing and wholeness.

In the church, the society, and the world.

There are many opportunities for service within the FLCW:

Executive Board: The Executive Board meets the third Thursday of each month at 10:00am in the Fellowship Hall. It is comprised of elected officers and chairpersons.

Members: All women of First Lutheran Church are considered members of First Lutheran Church Women (FLCW) and are most welcome.

Bible Study: All women are invited to meet the first Wednesday of each month for Bible Study and fellowship. Fellowship and coffee begins at 9:30am with Bible Study beginning at 10am. We use the Gather Magazine for our studies. Currently, we are working one month behind (ex. In October, we do the September  study.)

Quilting: All women of FLC are invited to meet on Wednesday mornings (excluding the first Wednesday) from 9:00am-10:30am  to assemble, tie, and sew quilts for Lutheran World Relief (LWR) and area ministry partners in the Bemidji Area. We have two packing days each year at which time the quilts and other parish projects are boxed and shipped for LWR.

Knitting: All women of FLC are invited to meet on Thursday afternoons at 1:00pm to knit prayer shawls and items such as hats or mittens for ministry partners locally and globally.

Finding meaningful relationships as an adult female can be challenging to do. Soul Sisters, a ministry of First Lutheran Church, is hoping to be a place where women can not only grow in relationship with each other but can also be known for women supporting women. We hope that you will join in these experiences and invite other women to be a part of this growing community. Soul Sisters is a place where laughter happens often, love is shared in abundance, and relationships are nurtured. Join us and see for yourself how uplifting these experiences can be in your life.
